Art Deco

This wonderfully artistic style began in Europe in around 1908 following on from the Art Nouveau style at the time. Influenced by Art Nouveau’s use of sunrise, flower and shell motifs however flowing lines were replaced with geometric and angular shapes. Highly modern at the time, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and social and technological progress.

Plain polished parquet is typical for flooring, as well as lino in an abstract design or black and white chequerboard vinyl tiles. Cabinets and cupboards are commonly in light, veneered wood.

When looking for lighting opt for female figures holding the ball of the lamp, or lights in chrome and glass.
