Gothic

Gothic

The mid-19th century saw the Victorians revive Gothic style and heavily take influence from medieval church architecture, characterised by the use of the pointed arch, carved wood and ornate, sophisticated decoration. Colours were rich and dark, from black and purple to forest green and gold.

Typical Gothic features include exposed wooden beams, imposing stone fireplaces, wrought iron metalwork chandeliers, walls in stone colours and ornate coat of arms and fleur-de-lys decoration. Flooring will be comprised of large flagstones and floorboards stained dark and accessories should include pewter ornaments, tapestries and stained glass.
